Four years after Jennifer Garner kicked her last enemy-of-the-state ass as Sydney Bristow on Alias, the actress and Victor Garber (who played her elusive father on the ABC series) got together for EW’s Reunions issue. In a New York City hotel room on a misty end-of-summer day, the duo posed for pictures with the kind of ease that only the closest friends share. Which is exactly what the former co-stars are. (Garber officiated at Garner’s wedding to Ben Affleck in 2005.) So did the shoot feel like an Alias reunion — or just two friends happily passing some time together? “Well, the fact that we’re in hair and makeup and kind of posey reminds me of the show because we haven’t worked together since then,” Garner told us. “But if it were Alias-y, I would be like this,” she said, crossing her arms Sydney Bristow style. “And you,” she continued, turning to Garber, “would have your hands straight down to the side.”
“I am like this!” Garber joked, striking a rigid, Jack Bristow stance. “We saw each other a couple of days ago. This is just, there are more people around taking pictures. Which is, you know —”
“Hilarious!” Garner interjected.
“Hilarious, yes,” Garber agreed. “We’ve had a good time. We generally have a good time.”
To see what else Garner and Garber had to say — including their thoughts on an Alias movie — check out the exclusive EW.com video below. And pick up Entertainment Weekly’s Reunions issue (on newsstands now) for interviews with the casts of Back to the Future, Will & Grace, Scream, Pretty in Pink, The West Wing, Married… With Children, and more.
I just added the screen captures of the rest of Season 5 of Alias to the gallery! I just have to cap Season 1-4 and all of the seasons are done. Enjoy!

According to a Web report, a “reliable insider” says there had been talk at ABC about creating a reboot of J.J. Abrams’ spy series “Alias,” which was canceled in 2006 after five seasons.
Zap2it caught up with star (and longtime friend of Abrams) Greg Grunberg to get his take on the possible “Alias” Version 2.0. While he thinks that a remake done the right way “would be very, very cool,” he’s not sure that it could be pulled off without one key player.
“I like to think that I’m not replaceable,” he jokes. “But in honestly, the one person that really made that show what it was, that’s Jennifer [Garner]. She’s so much the face of ‘Alias’ that it would be impossible to reproduce the success of the show without her.”
“With someone else, it would just be another ‘La Femme Nikita’, you know?” he continues. Of course, come fall 2010, The CW’s “Nikita” fills that niche.
“I mean, why remake it at all?” he laughs. “Why not just do something else exactly like it, with other actors and a new name? To me, there’s no one else who can play Syndey Bristow but Jennifer.”
Greg isn’t alone in that opinion, of course. When co-star Michael Vartan spoke with Zap2it, he had this advice for ABC: “I would say, ‘Go with God’ and do something else. There’s only one Jack Bristow and Sydney Bristow.”
We’re inclined to agree. Besides, “Alias” only ended in 2006. We’re not even done mourning the loss yet.
I just added tons of promotional photos from all seasons of Alias! Enjoy!

A “reliable insider” at ABC said preliminary talks were circulating about creating a reboot of J.J. Abrams hit spy series “Alias,” according to an E! Online report.
At this point, there’s no word whether original stars Jennifer Garner, Michael Vartan and Victor Garber would be involved in any remake, or even whether Abrams would return (he’s currently working on the new spy drama “Undercovers” for NBC).
Vartan, present star of TNT’s medical drama “HawthoRNe”, weighs in on the “Alias” reboot buzz.
“I’ve heard rumors here and there,” Vartan tells Zap2it. “I really do not know anything. It’s such a rumor, quote, unquote, that I haven’t even bothered calling anyone that was even loosely associated with the show in the past to find out if there’s any validity to the story.
“I think it’s a total rumor, but if they do redo it, and they don’t bring back the original cast, that would be weird. I was talking about this with someone the other day — it’s one thing to do ‘Charlie’s Angels’ all over again with a brand-new cast, because obviously enough time’s passed.
“But I feel like Victor and Jennifer and myself and Bradley [Cooper], we’re still young enough to do all those things. It’s not like we’re fossils, where they need to get an entire new cast of twentysomethings.
“So, I think if they did revisit ‘Alias’ with a new cast, to be honest with you, it’s not because I think we were so great, but I don’t think it would be well-received. It would be so weird.”
After all, “Alias” was not just about spy hijinks, it was also very much about the journey of Sydney Bristow and those she knew and loved.
“Exactly,” says Vartan. “The characters themselves were just as much a part of the story as the story itself. It just would be weird. I have heard rumors of a possible ‘Alias’ movie, but again, all rumors, who knows how these things get started?”
There’s also the question of the stars being employed, such as Vartan’s job in “HawthoRNe,” or Garner’s and Cooper’s movie careers. This year alone, Garner and Cooper appeared in “Valentine’s Day,” and Cooper can currently be seen in the big-screen reboot of “The A-Team.”
No matter what, it would be very hard to imagine “Alias” without Garner.
“Jennifer’s got her children and movie career,” Vartan says, “so she’s busy. I’m not sure she’d want to do it.”
Asked if he would want to guest-star if “Alias” rebooted with an all-new cast or just tell them to ‘go with God’ and do something else with his life, Vartan says, “I would say, ‘Go with God’ and do something else. There’s only one Jack Bristow and Sydney Bristow.”
Viewers can catch Vartan on TNT’s “HawthoRNe” when the second season kicks off on June 22 and stay tuned for more of Zap2it’s interview with the star.
Why not, right?
Television-to-movie adaptations are the current craze, and have been for the past few years. Hollywood is going back to the archives for “The A-Team,” celebrating present-day hits with “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” and looking ahead to future big-screen stories from the “24? and (possibly) “Lost” universe. “Alias,” at the very least, belongs in the conversation.
This isn’t coming out of thin air. The idea came to me after digesting Fox’s recent Blu-ray touch-up of “Elektra” while surfing The Hollywood Reporter’s column asking if movie audiences are tiring of sequels. The answer to that age-old question is yes and no. Most of us didn’t need to see another “Shrek” film, and clearly “Sex and the City 2? ran out of gas before Liza Minelli put the finishing touches on Beyonce’s “All the Single Ladies.”
But “Iron Man 2? brought plenty of story material to the table — some would argue too much, in fact — and audience members responded in kind. Sequels will always be accepted if they continue to expand on the overall story being told. Take the fourth “Die Hard,” as an example. It felt like a natural progression for Bruce Willis’ indestructible officer John McClane. A rumored fifth adventure, however, might be overdoing it. We’ll know when we see it.
Why “Alias,” though?
Well, the show (which ran from 2001-06 with a relatively unknown but perfectly cast Jennifer Garner) was nothing short of fantastic. The earliest seasons, which featured Garner’s double-agent character Sydney Bristow juggling a private life and a lethal secret life), were enormously elaborate and entertaining episodes of spy fiction. Character actors Victor Garber and Ron Rifkin chewed the right amount of scenery as Garner’s father and nemesis. And while the show got caught up in a convoluted mythology that led to the series’ ultimate demise, there’s PLENTY of material left on the table to turn Bristow into a big-screen James Bond for multiple feature-length adventures — especially while Bond, himself, languishes in MGM’s financial discontent.
Why now? For a number of reasons.
1. Bond is in limbo.
As we just mentioned, the next Bond adventure officially is TBD. A Sydney Bristow thriller could not only fill the void left by 007, it could potentially replace him on the spy food chain in ways Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt could not.2. A TV version might be on the horizon
Rumors of an “Alias” reboot on network television are starting to swirl. And while that might not be a bad idea, I don’t think it’s the best idea. A limited budget often affected “Alias” (special effects weren’t necessarily special), and the original cast likely would command a hefty salary bump. Spend the money and do “Alias” the right way … on the big screen. That leads me to this.3. Jennifer Garner’s a major movie star now. Bradley Cooper is, too.
You already can sell the franchise on two stars — something that couldn’t be said back in 2001 when the show started. Yes, Cooper “Alias” character, Will, largely played third banana to Garner and love interest Michael Vartan. But kill of Vartan’s vanilla Vaughn in the opening minutes, and the door is open to a rousing adventure with Garner and Cooper playing off each other and putting to use the skills they’ve picked up in the motion picture exercises. Speaking of experience …4. Regular “Alias” directors like J.J. Abrams and Jack Bender have more experience now
Abrams, himself, has become a household name thanks to his contributions to “Lost” and his directorial efforts with “Star Trek” and the third “Mission: Impossible” (which, essentially, was “Alias” with Cruise in the title role). A studio would be more likely to sign off on an Abrams or Bender-directed “Alias” now that the talents have proven themselves in the motion-picture ring.5. Garner could use a hit.
Yes, the once bankable actress was part of “Valentine’s Day,” which made a boatload of money. But that was an ensemble. Her recent attempts at carrying a film (or sharing the lead with a male co-star) haven’t flown as high as expected. “The Invention of Lying” made $18 million. “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” took in $55.2 million in a summer season. “The Kingdom” scored only $47M, while “Catch and Release” barely earned $15M. A return to the franchise that launched her career could give her current career-track a real boost.I’m not saying it’s going to happen. But I am saying I want it to happen. And I hope the powers that be make it happen. Soon.
All I have to say is “NO!” lol. First of all, it’s a bad idea to do anything that concerning Alias without Jennifer. Second of all, I think these people need to start being more creative and stop trying to remake/reboot everything.
Alias may be coming back… or at least a new version of it may be on the way.
Eonline’s Kristin Dos Santos is reporting that, while nothing is official, ABC is in very early talks about a possible reboot of the J.J. Abrams created series, which starred Jennifer Garner.
Dos Santos says that the network, having failed to find a foothold with the cancelled FlashForward, is looking at other ways to create a new series that could resonate with the kind of audience Lost had, and Alias is one title that is brewing among the execs. Apparently this new version of the series would “borrow some elements” from the original, but “would most likely not include any sort of complex mythological throughline such as the Rambaldi prophecy.”
One thing that’s uncertain is how involved Abrams would be with a new version of Alias, if at all – As you’re probably aware, the guy is just a little bit busy these days with other projects, including the new NBC spy series Undercovers
So what do you think? Can you accept someone besides Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow? Let us know in the comments!
